Azalea Luncheon - SOLD OUT Event, Deemed a Huge Success!

Celebrating spring at the Turtle Creek Association’s Azalea Luncheon was a vibrant and festive treat that brought smiles all around.

Sharon Ballew, luncheon chair, welcomed guests with honorary chair Deborah Stanford and Turtle Creek Association’s president and CEO, JD Trueblood, to the colorful and chic scene at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek.

The morning began with a champagne reception where everyone was catching up with friends on their plans for summer travels. The luncheon began as Sharon welcomed the crowd and recognized the Honorable Eddie Bernice Johnson, and Judith Lipscomb, one of the founding members. She thanked Belmont Village Senior Living as an underwriter and for sponsoring the wonderfully scented candle favors for each guest. There was also a goody bag full of gifts from the Turtle Creek Association.

JD presented Deborah with a surprise gift from Tiffany’s as a thank-you for her role as honorary chair. Deborah said that as a 15-year resident of Dallas, she is passionate about preserving Turtle Creek, a Dallas gem and asset to the city.

Betty Reiter, the owner of her namesake iconic boutique and fashion presentation sponsor, gave an overview of what is hot in spring/summer fashions. She said, "Color is back in a big way; it truly brings positive energy to your wardrobe." As everyone enjoyed a gourmet three-course luncheon, the fashions Betty showed were selections from the European and New York fashion shows she had recently attended.

The brightly colored fuchsia, lime green, and pink flowers made for striking table arrangements and matched the floral tones in the fashions. JD presented an exclusive update on Turtle Creek. He showed a moving video presentation that served as a reality check for everyone there. It highlighted the clean-up efforts from the trash that accumulates during storms as the water flows into Turtle Creek from other areas and said the master plan update is complete and had identified three critical areas of opportunity: Restoring the health of the creek, reversing infrastructure decay and beautifying the corridor.

JD encouraged everyone to participate in Turtle Creek Association and said that this overall plan could not happen without help from the community. Now is the time for action. Turtle Creek is a Dallas asset we need to protect.

That spurred a lot of conversation with guests saying they were unaware of the current situation and the needs of Turtle Creek. It is gratifying to know this beautiful area of Dallas is supported by a group of dedicated volunteers, underwriters, sponsors, and residents, who give every year to ensure this urban oasis is protected for today and generations to come.
